Moss Point, Mississippi is a city located in Harrison County and is about three miles north of Pascagoula which is the county seat. The City of Moss Point was incorporated in 1901 and became an industrial city that was comprised of paper mills and the ship building industry. Based on the U.S. Census Bureau, the populace of Moss Point was determined to number 13,704 in 2010.



The locale of Moss Point enabled the city to become a significant player in the South Mississippi lumber industry beginning as early as 1840. In the 1840s, Moss Point operated at least five saw mills that produced lumber from the nearby Mississippi Longleaf pine forest. By the 1890s, Moss Point was the largest exporter of pine lumber in the whole world.

After the Longleaf Pine was virtually eradicated from the Mississippi landscape, Moss Point became home to paper mills which used the remnants of the cut forest and also secondary growth pine trees to manufacture kraft paper.

Mississippis most significant employer, Ingalls Shipbuilding, is based in nearby Passcagoula, along with other major industries such as oil refining and chemical companies.
